Release

New in Loveshack v1.4.1

  • Beta updates. A new checkbox under Loveshack > Theme Updates, Receive beta updates, lets your site get pre-release versions of Loveshack before they go out to everyone. It saves as soon as you tick it, and WordPress checks for updates again right away. Betas get less testing and may contain bugs, so turn it on only on sites where that’s fine, like a staging copy. Sites that don’t opt in only ever get stable releases, and beta releases don’t appear in the stream or in feeds.
  • Beta badge. Loveshack > Dashboard adds a Beta badge wherever a beta is involved: next to an available update (“Beta version v1.5.0-beta.1 is available.”), next to the installed version while you run a beta, and on the release notes heading. You can always tell a pre-release from a stable one at a glance.
  • Back to stable automatically. A site in the beta channel gets the latest beta only while it’s newer than the latest stable release. Once a stable release overtakes it, the site gets that stable release instead, so testing a beta never leaves you stuck on an old pre-release. If you turn beta updates off while running a beta, your site stays on that version until the next stable release is newer.
  • Set it in wp-config.php. Define LOVESHACK_UPDATE_API_BETA as true or false in wp-config.php to fix the choice for a site. The checkbox then shows the setting but can’t change it.
  • Plugins included. Loveshack Typefully checks for updates through the theme, so the same switch gives it beta updates too. From Loveshack Typefully v0.4.1, its box on the Dashboard shows the Beta badge as well.
